ORLANDO, Florida - The Impact fell 3-2 to Sporting Kansas City, who remain undefeated in preseason play, on Wednesday night, in its final game of the group stage at the Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic tournament. The bleu-blanc-noir opened the scoring in the first minute when midfielder Hernan Bernardello played a through ball to Sanna Nyassi. The Gambian midfielder fired a one-time, right-footed shot from inside the left side of the box that beat keeper John Kempin to his left. Forward Dom Dwyer tied it up in the 9th minute. A collision in the box between Impact defender Wandrille Lefèvre and KCs Dwyer resulted in a penalty shot. Impact keeper Evan Bush managed to get a hand on the Dwyer blast, but couldnt prevent it from going in. The Impact took back the lead in the 30th minute, getting a penalty shot call of its own when midfielder Sanna Nyassi played a ball near the six-yard line. Collen Warner brought the ball down, but SKC centreback Matt Besler took Warner down with a slide. Felipe took the penalty and scored with a low shot past Kempin just inside the post. Kansas City equalized again towards the end of the first half when midfielder Graham Zusi played a cross into the box from deep down the left flank in the 43rd minute, where Dwyers jumping header found the back of the net. SKC took the lead for the first time in the game when left back Seth Sinovic played a low cross through the box that found midfielder Sal Zizzo in the 75th minute. The midfielders one-timed shot across goal left Bush with no chance to make the stop. The Impact had a number of good scoring chances denied by Kempin in the first half. Andrew Wenger and Justin Mapp were both turned away with great saves just moments apart. Bernardello saw his attempt stopped by the SKC keeper in the 38th minute. The Impact finishes the group stage in 5th position and will play its last game of the tournament Saturday against the Philadelphia Union. "We created a lot of chances, we just have to do a little better letting up bad goals at tough times," said Impact head coach Frank Klopas. "There was a lack of concentration and maybe a little fatigue, but it will get better. I thought there were good at moments in the game." "I was happy being here," the 42-year-old Jagr said Thursday in a conference call from Belarus, where he is playing for the Czech Republic in the world championships. "There was no reason to change. There was no reason to test free agency. What would happen? Someone might give me more money, but nobody can guarantee me that Id be happy someplace else. If Im happy, then theres no reason to go anywhere else. I play my best hockey when Im happy." The Devils did not release terms of the contract. Jagr said it was a one-year deal. The contract is believed to be worth $6 million with incentives. "I like having one-year deals," Jagr said. "If something goes wrong, you never know if you have a long contract and say have three years left. One year is good for everybody. I think both sides wanted to get this done quickly. Lou (Lamoriello, the teams president and general manager) wanted to do it, because he wanted to see the direction where hes going with the team." Jagr was the Devils leading scorer this, finishing with 24 goals and 43 assists for 67 points. "Id truly like to score more goals," Jagr said. "I feel like I can play with the guys we have. We have a better chance to play better. We have a good group of guys and thats very important. I like to play a lot, because I dont get tired." Jagr will turn 43 in February of next season, his 21st year in the NHL. We didnt have any great superstars, but we had good goal scorers that give us a chance to compete against anybody and beat anybody. Its just my feeling, but we didnt have to be great to win games, if we work hard." Jagr said that he liked the camaraderie in the Devils locker room. "We have a lot of fun," Jagr said. "We have a loose atmosphere. Theres not a bad guy in the room. Maybe we need a bad one to get in the playoffs." Jagr was named Thursday as one of the three finalists for the Bill Masterton Award, given to the player "who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey," along with Manny Malholtra of the Carolina Hurricanes and Dominic Moore of the New York Rangers. "It means a lot that the hockey writers picked me," Jagr said. "Hockey writers can be very picky, so for them to pick me means a lot. I just love the sport and follow the laws of the sport."
